Student policies
The rules you agree to when you enrol, in writing, before you sign anything.
Alberta requires the college to give you its rules and policies in writing before you sign an enrolment contract. This page summarizes the Robin College Student Policy Handbook 2026-2027. For the full handbook, email admissions@robincollege.ca.
Attendance
- You may miss no more than 10% of your total program days, and you need to tell your instructor the reason.
- If you are absent five days in a row without telling the college, you are withdrawn from the program as of your last day of attendance.
- Arriving 15 minutes or more after class starts is a late arrival. Leaving 15 minutes or more before it ends is an early departure. Tell your instructor ahead of time.
- Attendance and punctuality records are kept, and may be shared with your funding agency. A funding agency can withdraw funding for poor attendance.
- Exams: arriving more than 10 minutes late counts as missing the exam. You then sit an alternative exam within five working days, 10% is deducted from any exam not written on its scheduled date, and a $100 re-sit fee may apply.
Grades and academic standing
- The passing grade for every course is 65%. You also need to complete your practicum to receive your credential.
- Two courses in a row below 65% places you on academic probation, with a learning plan. Two courses in a row at 65% or higher ends it.
- A course below 65% has to be retaken, once, at your own cost.
- One rewrite or resubmission is allowed per course, when it would bring you to a pass. Ask your instructor in writing within one week of the original due date, and complete it within two weeks.
- Late assignments lose 5% a day for up to seven days, then receive a zero. Nothing is accepted after the course ends.
- Instructors return marked work within 14 days.
Academic integrity
- Plagiarism. First time: a written warning and a rewrite. Second time: a zero for the assignment with no rewrite. Third time: a zero for the course and possible termination.
- Cheating on an exam, test or quiz. First time: a written warning and a 20% penalty on the retake. Second time: a zero and possible termination.
Conduct
- Treat other students and staff with respect, in person and online. Discrimination, harassment and abusive behaviour are not tolerated.
- No drugs or alcohol, and no weapons, on college premises.
- Classes are recorded for learning and assessment, and cameras must be on in online classes and exams. You may keep recordings for your own review, but not share them. Recording a class or a person yourself needs the college’s written consent.
- A breach is documented, and can lead to a warning, probation or termination.
Withdrawal, leave and termination
- To withdraw, give written notice to the Academics Department at your campus. A phone call, or notice from someone else on your behalf, does not count.
- A leave of absence may be granted in exceptional circumstances. Email your request with supporting documents to admissions@robincollege.ca. It is not guaranteed.
- You can be terminated for breaching the academic integrity, conduct, attendance or tuition payment policies.
- You have up to 24 months to complete a 12-month diploma, including practicum, breaks and any leave.
- If you withdraw or are terminated, you owe tuition for the training provided under Alberta’s refund rules, plus books and other fees. If it is not paid, or a payment plan set up, within 30 days of the college’s letter, the balance goes to a collection agency.
- To come back after withdrawing or being terminated, you apply to return within 24 months of your original start date. Returning is subject to approval and to the fees below, and a program that has changed may need to be retaken in part or in full.
Practicum
- Practicum is unpaid work experience with a host organization. It is at least 120 hours, more in some programs, and you need it to graduate.
- To start, you need to have passed every course, have no outstanding payments, have attended two pre-practicum workshops, and provide a criminal record check one month before. Some programs also require training such as First Aid, CPR or MANDT.
- Practicum is full time and can include day, evening and weekend shifts, for evening and self-paced students too.
- The college arranges placements with you but cannot guarantee a particular host or location. You can propose your own host for the college to approve.
Your credential
- Your diploma or certificate and transcript are ready four to six weeks after you complete the program, including practicum. The college holds them until all fees are paid.
- Copies of your official transcript are $50 each. A diploma cannot be reissued, so keep it safe.
- Whether another institution accepts your credits, or another province recognizes your training, is for that institution or body to decide, not Robin College.
- Tuition is usually tax-deductible. The college issues an official tuition tax receipt by the end of February for each year you attended.
Other fees
Tuition, books and supplies for each program are on the tuition page. These fees apply only in the situations listed:
- Application fee: $100, non-refundable.

- Internal credit transfer for courses completed more than two years ago: $200.
- Returning after withdrawal or termination: a $200 administration fee, and an IT fee of $100, or $200 if you had completed more than half of the program.
- Changing practicum host without a valid reason: $200.
- Exam re-sit, if you do not contact the college within three days of missing the exam: $100.
- Replacement student ID: $10.
